Make Your Home
Fire Strong

Wildfires are dynamic and unique threats. Unlock your home’s water as a steadfast defense to face these challenges.

Being Fire Strong means feeling more confident, more prepared, in the face of wildfires.

What is Fire Strong?

A Wildfire Irrigation System
Powered By Technology

By intelligently using water, your most effective tool against fire, Fire Strong’s wildfire irrigation system protects the most vulnerable areas around your home.

Utilizing the advantages of IoT components, it’s targeted, responsive, efficient, and built around the latest in fire science.

Protect
High-Risk Zones

Our system ensures targeted protection against ignitions in the non-combustible perimeter that are highest-risk for damage and total home loss.

Make Efficient
Use of Water

Well water is not infinite. The system continuously sprays with just enough water to deny embers the chance to ignite.

Take Action When
Threat Occurs

Our IoT components and network infrastructure allows homeowners to react to threats remotely and a safe distance from danger.

Understanding Wildfire Defense

Stopping Embers before
they lead to devastation

Why Fire Strong?

A Smart, Targeted Approach
to Combat A UNique Threat

Protect the non-combustible perimeter

A single ember can wreak havoc.

One of the most critical areas to protect is the non-combustible perimeter, the first five feet around your home, where most ignitions from wind-blown embers occur.

Stopping small ignitions in the non-combustible perimeter before they become catastrophic is the most effective tool of defense.

Utilize water efficiently

Smart regulation of your most precious resource.

Most sprinkler-based wildfire systems waste water by running non-stop, even when it’s not needed — a big risk for homes on wells with limited supply.

Fire Strong’s system uses water more wisely, spraying only what’s needed, when it’s needed. Smart water use isn’t optional — it’s essential.

Smart, Sustained defense

Comprehensive protection based in fire science.

Our irrigation system combines smart zoning and unprecedented control while using the minimum amount of water actually needed to put out small ignitions and mitigate the fuel that embers need to ignite.

Homeowners can keep their structures better protected until the threat has receded.

Our Team

Matt Matula
Founder and Product Lead

Based in Southern Oregon, Matt has spent over seven years building high-performance custom homes. As wildfire threats increased, he recognized that resilience must be part of performance. Volunteering with the local fire department and earning his NFPA Wildfire Mitigation Specialist certification deepened his understanding. He began integrating fire-resistant materials and designs—but noticed a major gap: water was underutilized. This realization sparked the creation of Fire Strong, focused on bringing smarter wildfire protection tools and education to homeowners.

Matt holds licenses from the Oregon CCB, the Oregon Landscape Board (Irrigation Installer), and NFPA certification in wildfire mitigation.

Max Mattson, Ph.D.
R&D, Technical Lead

Max Mattson, based in the Chicagoland area, met Matt during college, where their friendship eventually sparked a collaboration on the Fire Strong project. With a background in physics, chemistry, data science, and algorithm development, Max applies his expertise to develop prototypes that bring Fire Strong’s vision to life. His deep understanding of complex systems, combined with the team’s unique insights into wildfire behavior, has been instrumental in shaping effective, technology-driven solutions.

Max holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Colorado State University and continues to drive innovation at the intersection of science, data, and wildfire resilience.
